What is your skin type? What is your skin condition? How do you know? Are your skin care products addressing your skin type and condition?
Your “skin type” is the type of skin you are BORN WITH. Your skin condition is a “temporary” condition that is due to your external environment or internal biological reactions to food, drugs, X-Rays or stress etc. Your skin type never changes, however skin conditions can change due to living conditions, health conditions etc.
There are only two types of skin…DRY and OILY. Everyone is oily and has larger pores in their T-zone so “combination skin” does not apply. There can be several types of skin conditions, for example; sensitive, dehydrated, redness, hyper-pigmented, and even dry can be a condition on occasion. The difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin is that dry skin needs oil and dehydrated skin need water. There is a skin test you can apply to yourself to see if your skin is dehydrated. With your index finger placed on your lower cheek just above your jawbone, push up on your cheek. If the skin is rippled and not smooth your skin is dehydrated and need products with water.
Indicators of someone who has dry skin: small pores, never has break outs, and if so they are never fill with a pussy infection. Indicators of someone who has oily skin can be any one of the following: large pores, shiny skin during the day, has had Acne at some point in their life. A person can have both a skin type and skin condition at the same time. For example a person living in the desert can have both dry skin and dehydrated skin and would need skin care products with both oil and water to help put their skin back in balance. A person with oily skin can also be dehydrated and sensitive especially if they live in the desert and are dealing with Type 2 or Type 3 Acne. Acne makes the skin become sensatized so this person would need to use sensitive products that have have water and oil balancing ingredients.
The best way to find out what skin type you have and the condition your skin is in is to have a European Facial. The Aesthetician will conduct a skin analysis as part of the facial and use products that put your skin in balance. They will also recommend products that best suit your skin’s needs.
